Privacy & what we monitor

GuardAIn holds information about children. We tell you exactly what we keep, what we watch for, what we never watch, and who can see it.

What we watch for

GuardAIn tells the student's counsellor when one of these things happens, so they can check in early. Nothing else is watched. Flags are seen only by the counsellor (or the head teacher when there is no counsellor), never by teachers or classmates, and they are never used in reports or sent to universities or employers.

  • A sharp fall in marks. The average mark falls by 10 points or more from one term to the next.
  • A big drop in one subject. A mark in one subject falls by 20 points or more from one term to the next.
  • Low attendance. Attendance for the term is below 80% of the days the school was open.
  • A sudden drop in engagement. Absent on 3 or more of the last 5 school days, or 3 assignments in a row not handed in.
  • Worrying words in a discussion group. A post in a school discussion group uses words about being bullied or about self-harm. Only discussion-group posts are checked — never a private notebook or questions to Prep AI.
  • Several missed exams. Three or more end-of-term exams are recorded as missed in one term.

A flag is always looked at by a person — the student's counsellor (or the head teacher when the school has none). A computer never decides anything about a child on its own.

What we never watch

  • The student's private notebook and study notes.
  • Messages between a parent and the school — they are read only by the people they are sent to.
  • Anything outside GuardAIn: phones, social media, other websites, location.
  • Wellbeing answers are never used to score, rank or choose a student, and never reach a university or employer.

Who sees what

  • Marks, attendance, report cards: the student, their parents, their teachers and the school.
  • Assessments and wellbeing results: only the student, their parent and their counsellor.
  • Counselling notes and welfare flags: only the counsellor. They are stored encrypted.
  • Guidance reports: written with the help of AI, always read, edited and approved by a counsellor before the family sees them. They are guidance, never a verdict.
  • Universities and employers see nothing about a student unless the family gives fresh, specific consent.

Your rights

  • Consent: a parent or guardian gives consent for each purpose, and can withdraw it at any time on the family page.
  • A copy: ask the school for a copy of everything GuardAIn holds about your child; the school can download it in one click.
  • Correction and erasure: ask the school to correct a mistake, or to erase a child's personal data when they leave.
  • Moving school: the profile moves with the child only when a parent agrees.
  • No selling, ever. Data is used for guidance only.
